100 Days, 100 Wines – Vinaceaous ‘Shakre’ Chardonnay and ‘Snakecharmer’ Shiraz – Day 20 and 21!

Thought we would kill two birds with one stone in this post, especially since we decided to bring both of these wines in from the Vinaceous line. Leave it to the Aussies to incorporate some seriously exotic and seductive flare to their packaging.

First up is the 2011 Shakre Chardonnay from the Margaret River region. We love this Chardonnay because of the balance it shows. 80% of the juice was fermented in stainless steel so the really crisp, bright fruit flavors really shine through. The remaining wine was fermented in French Oak Barriques which adds a roundness and richness to the palate. Vibrant, creamy, and still lots of acid on the finish. A really solid Chardonnay that we felt delivers at this pricepoint (just under $20). We would pair this with roast chicken, pork or a nice cheese flatbread. Delicious!

Next we tried the 2009 Snakecharmer Shiraz. The fruit was from old vines, and does see about 14 months in oak. The wine is in short, pretty delicious. For those that love this bold, jammy, ripe style of wine, this is a winner. Black fruit, chocolate-y notes and smooth, silky tannins.

The Raconteur Cabernet was another favorite of ours – look for that coming soon. The Chard and Shiraz will be on our shelves tomorrow!
