Women in wine spotlight : ca’ del baio

Women in Wine Spotlight:

Ca ‘ del Baio

Ca’del Baio is located in Treiso ( close to Barbaresco) in Piedmont. The Grasso family has been making wine for 4 generations and today their operation is almost entirely run by the women in the family! The wines are all made from estate grown grapes, and all exceptional quality and value! We stock the Chardonnay, Dolcetto and Moscato d’Asti which says a lot about their brand. We rarely stock multiple wines from one producer for the sake of variety, but we love these wines! All three are under $20 retail which amazing!

Snag one this weekend to celebrate the start of spring break!

Cheers!

Our Favorite Thanksgiving Wines

Thanksgiving is truly our favorite food and wine pairing holiday of the year! The array of flavors, the autumnal, warm spice notes and the fact that the whole day is centered around the meal makes it so fun! As always, we say you drink what YOU like, but we also love to share our favorite wines and what we will be serving at our own table to give you a little bit of inspiration.

La Bernarde Rose - Dry rose is beautiful as a starter wine - and pairs so well with turkey, with starters and vegetable dishes, and for those wanting something lighter!

Domaine Mittnacht Pinot Blanc - Pinot Blanc is perfect with appetizers and cheeses, salads and potato dishes - and honestly would carry you through the whole meal. We love the autumnal stone fruit notes in Pinot Blanc and the minerality and acidity make it an excellent food wine!

Victorine de Chastaney Cremant de Bourgogne Brut - We always include a bubbly in our Thanksgiving pack because there is nothing more versatile or crowd pleasing! Great with dishes that are richer in cream and fat, a crisp, dry bubbly cuts through those notes and cleanses the palate. Also, for those wanting to enjoy a little something while they cook or watch the parade in the morning, a beautiful glass of bubbly is a festive way to start the day!

Bishop's Peak San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir - Pinot Noir is a classic Thanksgiving wine (and food partner) with its lighter tannins, fall inspired spice notes and acidity. We chose two options to appease everyone at the table! Bishop’s Peak Pinot has some of the bigger fruit notes and rounder flavors for those wanting a more robust pinot.

Domaine Bel Air Morgon - Another classic Thanksgiving option - Cru Beaujolais! We love the harmony of gorgeous fruit notes (plum, rich berry tones) along with notes of mineral and spice. If you are going a non-traditional route and serving a roast or beef tenderloin this more robust red would pair well, but it also has enough delicacy to not overwhelm traditional thanksgiving dishes.

Ponzi La Tavola Pinot Noir - Finally we end with a gorgeous Oregon Pinot Noir because nothing feels more fitting! This wine has so much nuance - dark cherry and berry notes, cedar, spice and a little caramel note on the finish. The tannins are smooth and polished, not overwhelming. Again it all goes back to acidity that really allows this wine to pair with your meal and to not overwhelm.

The perfectly curated assortment of wine for everything from bubbles to enjoy while you cook, or to start your meal; to white and red options that will pair to your thanksgiving dinner perfectly! We are so excited to be able to offer this package - make your Thanksgiving easy as pie with our curated 6 pack and don’t spend one second stressing about wine!

Exploring Wines of Sicily / Mount Etna

We love exploring the world of wine - especially vibrant and unique wine regions that we wouldn't typically gravitate towards without a little more background information. Italian wine is my love language, and I have always found the wines from Sicily, near Mount Etna to be so interesting and unique!

Mount Etna is one of the highest and most active volcanoes in Europe, towering above the city of Catania in Sicily and began erupting in 2013, imparting volcanic materials and rock into the surrounding soils. This has a significant impact in the terroir the grapes are grown in and imparts a unique complexity to the wines. The dark volcanic soils, high elevations

(which causes cool air to come down the steep mountain sides) and the warm Mediterranean climate at the base, creates a truly unique microclimate for grapes to grow. Etna’s primary wine producing zone rises up the slopes of Mount Etna to an elevation of 3,500 feet and higher - the highest commercial vineyards in the world.

We love looking at regions through our curated packs because its such a great way to gain snap shot of the types of wines available there. Our newest 3 pack is gorgeous and showcases a red, white and Rosato wine from the Mount Etna area.

Cottanera Barbazzale Bianco - This unique white wine grown in alluvial soils in a very unique location - higher elevation on the mountain gaining influence from the cooler climate, high elevation and warm air coming up from the Mediterranean climate. On the nose, floral scents of wisteria and broom on a iodized base. On the palate it is fresh with notes of citrus, melon and a mineral finish.

Cottanera Rosato - Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese grapes. On the nose, floral notes of iris, wisteria and roses are accompanied by the freshness of aromatic herbs.

A rich, deep, sapid wine that contains the typical characteristics of volcanic soil.

Cottanera Barbazalle Etna Rosso - On the nose, aromatic scents of raspberries, blackberries and wild flowers intertwine with mineral shades. The palate is fresh and aromatic, balanced by good tannins. Want to explore along with us? Snag this 3 pack here!

We are clearing out the rest of our curated 2 and 3 packs and bringing in new packs for fall you will love! Shop what is left of the Oregon 3 Pack and the Summer Riesling 3 Pack before they are gone!
