The term 'Orange Wine' has become a hot buzz word in the wine industry lately! It refers to white made with extended skin contact. This process can impart unique flavor and texture to the wine. While orange wine seems to be exploding on the wine scene right now, the process dates back thousands of years to the Republic of Georgia.

Big Salt Orange Wine
Big Salt Orange Wine
Big Salt “Orange Rosé” is a blend of Ramato- (Italian for “auburn” or “copper”) style Pinot Gris and a Riesling blend that was fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels. It isn’t as funky or extracted as an orange wine. Rather, it lives somewhere in between. It has a cranberry meets orange juice color due to a 14-day fermentation on the skins. The Big Salt white blend components that went into barrel saw anywhere from 8 hours of skin contact, up to 3 days. According to the producer, “Its aromas remind me of an orange creamsicle stirred into a cup of hibiscus tea steeped with autumnal spices.”
